Rise in rank requires a mastery of a number of categories. With the exception of vintning, bee-keeping, malting, herb cultivation and imbibing, to master a category three brews must be produced for an event to be consumed by at least three people, or may be presented to members of the brewer's Shire/ Barony/ group. The presentation and taste of the brew will be commented upon, preferably by at least two fellow members of the Guild (or three members of the brewer's Shire/Barony/group). In the case of vintning, bee-keeping, malting, herb cultivation and imbibing a displayed ability in the art or science will suffice . For all categories entered period documentation must be provided and any adaptations noted. Any entry in Kingdom or Principality level competitions will be considered as one category presented and will require no comment. There will be a form for recording the member's name, the category entered, documentation, any recipe, and adaptations and the comments of three people. This form must be sent to the Guild Administrator following the presentation of each category entry. NOVICE: To become a novice you must show an interest, and have presented one category entry. APPRENTICE: To become an apprentice the novice must master the production of three category entries. One of these entries must be presented at an official event. JOURNEYMAN: To become a journeyman the apprentice must master a further three categories. One of these entries must be presented at an official event. The apprentice must also write one article for the Guild publication or teach at a Collegium. The journeyman must also write one article for the Guild publication or teach at a Collegium. Chapters Every Shire/barony/group may have a chapter of the Guild while a member lives within. Each chapter is responsible for commenting upon fellow Guild members' work. Chapters may organise themselves and their activities according to the Charter as they see fit. Individual guild members are responsible for their own progress forms. Each member must collect colleagues' comments and send the form to the Guild Administrator following the presentation of each category entry. Failure to do this prevents rise in ranking. Each chapter shall abide by the Charter of the Guild, the laws of Lochac and the ideals of the SCA. Annual Meeting A review of the Guild shall be held each 12th Night. Any changes may be made by a majority of the Guild Members. The Administrative Head of the Guild shall hold office for no more than four years. The Coronet may, at its discretion and at the request of the Guild, appoint a Royal Brewer to provide advice and beverages for their Highnesses as needed, and to serve as an additional point of contact between the Coronet and the Guild. The Coronet shall recognise the Guild ranking system, and the rankings given individual brewers by the Guild. For its part, the Guild shall establish and maintain a set of rules governing the awarding of rank. OFFICERS The Guild Master or Mistress The administrative head of the Guild is called the Guild Master or Guild Mistress and may be of any rank. This Guild Administrator must maintain a current list of members and reply to their correspondence. Each member's rank and progress must be recorded and filed. He or she must maintain and augment any Guild resources or index. The Guild Administrator reports to their Highnesses, Lochac Minister of Arts and Sciences and the Lochac Seneschal prior to Twelfth Night. The Chronicler The chronicler is responsible for the publication of the Guild newsletter and may hold office for no more than three years. The chronicler is answerable to the Guild Administrator. The newsletter should be produced at irregular intervals and issued at the cost of production. |
